Hotel at Machu picchu [Customer Comments]

“Staff went beyond the call of duty”
SUMAQ Machu Picchu Hotel

This amazing hotel on the shores of a very fast flowing river was a joy to behold.
The staff were so welcoming and did everything in their power to make your stay 100% positive. In our case sending their maitre d' Erick on the 9.30pm train to Cusco with my camera inadvertently left in the ladies bathroom. We were flying from Cusco to Lima and Quito, Ecuador at 7am next day, and there was no other way to receive it in time.I had written it off but they telephoned our Cusco hotel to say this is what they would do for 60 dollars, as Erick needed a hotel bed and a return train fare. What service! Sure enough the camera was delivered to hotel reception at 1am.
We can endorse all the good points on this site in other reviews. Wonderful place and Machu Picchu is awesome, although we didnt do the extra sunrise trek, instead enjoyed the museum, small botanical garden and butterfly park near to the original station about 20 minutes towards the start of the mountain climb. We had a personal guide organised by Columbus travel who travelled from Cusco on the train with us and ensured all aspects ran smoothly, which I appreciated as altitude sickness was preying on me. Our guide Rob spoke excellent English and explained all the information on Machu Picchu so much better than the guide book. He returned the same day leaving us to relax in the lovely hotel, and to enjoy the excellent included dinner.
We enjoyed the uniqueness of the town with its rail track through the main street, the thundering river, the exquisite views from the train, and best of all the hospitality at the Sumaq hotel. If I ever go back I would head for this hotel.

“Oasis in a place close to heaven”
SUMAQ Machu Picchu Hotel

I stayed three days at the Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel and it was a very pleasant experience. Amazing to find such a place in an ancient location that keeps its Peruvian personality, nestled at the feet of majestic mountains where the Inca nobility constructed a breathtaking sanctuary centuries ago. From the hotel you can easily reach the ruins in twenty minutes on one of the safe coasters that provide transportation all day long. Sumaq is a comfortable, cozy place to rest. The exquisite meals are prepared following menus created by one of Perú’s most prestigious chefs. The hotel is located by the lively Urubamba River in the little town of Aguas Calientes, meaning "Hot Baths", where you can take a tranquil walk along the river, up a paved trail amid tropical vegetation, leading to warm pools fed by streams flowing from the depths of the mountain. After dinner, native musicians play for a while beautiful songs created by the Quechua people, as well as popular Latin American and international music. The staff offers very professional service and the owners personally see to it that everything goes well.

Although the temperature in the rooms is very comfortable and you can draw open the balcony door to a lovely sight and fresh air, I would recommed adding air conditioning --in addition to the heating that is already installed--. Although it is often cool or cold outside, air conditioning is needed for oxygen.
